MAGGIE M - FULL SHELTERED DECK TRAWLER ( * * )
The MAGGIE M. operates out of Scarborough Harbour in Yorkshire and is owned by the skipper, Mr. R. Mainprize for whom the vessel was built in 1990 by Campbeltown Shipbuilders Ltd, Campbeltown, Scotland. This vessel is based on the shipyard's standard Campbeltown 87 design.
The Maggie M. is designed for twin rig trawling which means that as one net is being emptied, the other can be trawled. The nets are emptied through the hatchon the starboard side foredeck and the aluminium shelterdeck is a cover over the fish handling and processing room. The hold is refrigerated and the catch is unloaded through the centre hatch on the foredeck, already packed in ice. The shelterdeck allows the trawling to be undertaken in virtually al seas, the winch being controlled from the back interior of the wheelhouse thus minimising the exposure by the crew to the weather elemnts.
The kit would suit modellers with average skills. Kit contents: a detailed GRP hull; propshaft and tube; Becker rudder, Kort nozzle and propeller. Styrene parts for the deck, superstructure and the detailed wheelhouse interior. A set of 300 cast whitemetal fittings, two winches and a crane kit. Vacuum formed liferaft canisters and radar. Detailed assembly instructions and drawings.
The Becker rudder and Kort nozzle make for a very manoeuverable model, turning almost within its own length. Designed to operate in the most arduous sea conditions, the Maggie M. performs very well on rough waters.
