WYEFORCE - MOORING AND BERTHING TUG ( * * )

The WYEFORCE was built in 1994 by Hepworth Shipyards of Hull, England, for Itchen Marine, who operate tugs, launches and barges around the River Itchen at Southampton. Work for the Wyeforce will include ship towage and liner berthing in and around Southampton water. Her hard chine hull is heavily built and has a conventional twin screw layout using fixed pitch propellers working within Kort nozzles. Powered by twin Caterpillar 3412 diesel engines with a total of 1,000kW, a 19ton bollard pull has been achieved, together with a free running speed of 11 knots. Apart from the machinery and 13,000 litres of fuel tankage, there is accomodation below deck for four crew members.

The model is fairly simple for average modelling skills. On the water the performance is outstanding due to the large Kort nozzles and propellers. It is ideal for R/C steering competitions, and tug towing competitions with slight modifications in construction of the towing bollard
