YORKSHIREMAN SALVAGE TUG ( * * )

The YORKSHIREMAN was built in 1978 by Cochrane Shipbuilding Ltd of Selby, Yorkshire, for United Towing Ltd of Hull. She is one of a pair of identical tugs ordered at the same time (the YORKSHIREMAN's sister ship is the IRISHMAN.) She has a length of 138ft (42m), a beam of 38ft (11.6m), a displacement of 686 tons, and was constructed to class of Lloyds 100 A1 Tug LMC ICE Class 3.

The YORKSHIREMAN and IRISHMAN have been involved in all types of towing work in the North Sea and around the world. Their most famous days were without doubt during the Falklands War when they were taken into service with the SALVAGEMAN by the Royal Navy. Their best known exploit was in the attempt to save the container ship 'Atlantic Conveyor' after she had been hit by missiles from the Argentine Air Force; unfortunately this rescue attempt was not successful.

The kit includes approximately 1200 parts and is recommended for modellers with some experience. The model is ideal for towing competitions with slight modifications in construction of the towing bollard.

Kit contents: detailed GRP hull, propshafts and tubes; Kort nozzles, rudders and propellers. Die-cut and printed styrene parts for deck and superstructure.

Over 700 cast white metal and etched brass fittings; vacuumed formed rescue boat, dinghy, liferaft canisters, radome. Two cranes, and anchor winch and a towing winch. Rubber fendering, dowel for mast, wire for railings.

Waterslide transfers for both the YORKSHIREMAN and the IRISHMAN. Assembly instructions and drawings.

REQUIRED FOR OPERATION: Radio control (2 or 4 channel), speed controllers, motors/gear units, couplings, battery. A bow thruster is not necessary, however can be fitted.
